Temporary Password
If you have a temporary password- a 3 or 6-digit number which was assigned to you through Telephone Banking or a CIBC Instant Teller®- you can use this the first time you sign on to CIBC Online Banking. If you do not have a temporary password or if you have forgotten it, you can call Telephone Banking at 1-800-465-2422 to have it issued or reset.
Register for Online Banking
When you register for CIBC Online Banking, you must choose a 6 to 12 character password and enter it on the registration page when prompted. Passwords are case sensitive and may contain upper- or lowercase letters, numbers, or a combination. Re-enter the password for verification and select “Next” to continue.
Change your Password
If you are signed on to your account and want to change your CIBC Online Banking password, you can:
1. Select “Customer Services” from the left-hand navigation menu
2. In the “Edit Your Information” column, select “Change your password”

This change applies only to Online Banking and does not affect your bank machine personal identification number (PIN) or Telephone Banking password.

2. Select the "Forgot Your Password" link
3. On the "Forgot Your Password" page, answer each of the two personal verification questions and select "Next"
4. Set up your new password. This password can be letters or numbers or a combination of both, and is case-sensitive
5. Enter the password again and select "Next" to see the confirmation screen
If you haven't set up personal verification questions and answers, or if you have forgotten your answers, please call a representative at 1-888-872-2422. To use this number, dial the country code from which you're calling, then the toll free number, followed by 1.
CIBC Visa Online Banking Password
If you don't have a Convenience Card but hold a CIBC Visa Card, you must be the primary cardholder and a Canadian resident to access CIBC Visa Online. To reset an existing password, select the "Register Now" link from the Sign On page and enter your Visa card number in the field indicated.
If you have recently been issued a Visa card with a different number than the original, you must re-register for CIBC Visa Online Banking.
Password Tips
If the above scenarios do not apply to you, please try the sign on process again and ensure that:
• You have the “Num Lock” function turned on if you are using the keypad to enter your Convenience Card number
• You enter the password exactly as it was originally chosen (passwords are case-sensitive)
• You have the Caps Lock turned off
When selecting a new online banking password, please consider:
• Choosing a password that is easy for you to remember but hard for anyone else to guess
• Your password can contain letters and numbers (but no spaces or punctuation)
• If you are accessing Online Banking using a wireless device, please use only numbers in your password
• Your password is case sensitive, meaning that if it contains uppercase (capital) and lowercase letters, you must use the same capitalization each time your password is entered
• Do not select passwords made up of names, dates, phone numbers or identifiable words
• Do not use your Online Banking password for any other access codes or passwords
• Do not use any part of your account or card numbers as your password
Once you have selected and changed your Online Banking password, do not use it for any other access codes or passwords. We recommend you change your password regularly (every few months) to help CIBC keep your information secure. If you have any questions, you can view the Electronic Access Agreement for password and other important information at any time.
If you continue to experience difficulties, please call CIBC Online Banking Customer Support at 1-888-872-2422. Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
